Your Feelings Can Lie to You: Making Faith-Based Decisions with God’s Guidance
Your feelings can lie to you. They can cloud your judgment and prevent you from hearing God. When your heart is hardened by emotions, you may struggle to receive correction. Acting on feelings alone can lead you to stumble, causing you to operate in the spirit of error and potentially go against God’s will.
The Danger of Emotional Decisions
Making a decision based on what you “feel like” can be dangerous. Emotions are fleeting and can be deceptive, leading you down paths that are not in alignment with God’s plan for you. Instead, seek to make sound decisions by consulting God. Here’s how:
Quiet Your Emotions
Begin by asking God to help you calm your emotions. In moments of high emotion, it’s easy to react impulsively rather than thoughtfully. Pray for peace and clarity.
Seek His Guidance
Once you’ve quieted your emotions, ask God for His input. Pray for wisdom and discernment. God knows the truth and operates in truth, so His guidance will always be in your best interest.
Formulate a Plan
Ask God for a plan. Trust that He will lead you in the right direction. He can provide you with a clear path forward, one that is not swayed by temporary emotions.
Evaluating Your Feelings with God’s Truth
Judge your feelings against the truth of God’s word. Emotions can be misleading, but God’s word remains constant. Align your decisions with His will. Seek confirmation through prayer and read His word. Listen to God’s response and follow through on His guidance, even if it goes against what you initially feel.
It’s Never Too Late to Change
If you’re known for making decisions based on feelings, remember it’s never too late to try it God’s way. Embrace a new approach by prioritizing His wisdom over your emotions. Doing so can transform your decision-making process, leading to more fruitful and aligned outcomes.
Beware of Emotional Decisions from Others
If someone discloses that they made a decision based on feelings, especially if it involves you, it’s a red flag. Decisions driven by emotion can be unstable and unreliable. Be cautious and seek God’s guidance on how to proceed in such situations.
Your feelings can lie to you, but God’s truth is unwavering. By quieting your emotions and seeking His guidance, you can make sound decisions that align with His will. Trust in God’s wisdom and follow His plan, allowing His truth to guide you through life’s challenges.
Remember, it’s never too late to start making decisions His way. If emotions have ruled your choices in the past, turn to God for a new beginning.
